About Shimila

Welcome to my sanctuary of holistic care here in the heart of Virginia! My name is Shimila Keenum, and I hold dual licensure as a Clinical Social Worker and Registered Nurse. As a child, I dreamed of being a nurse. Achieving that dream was fulfilling, but as time went on, I often found myself wanting to do more for my patients than my role allowed. This longing led me to social work, where I could dive deeper into advocacy and embrace a holistic approach to health that encompasses body, mind, and soul. My background in nursing and social work gives me a unique perspective on the intricate connections between mental, emotional, and physical health, enabling me to provide care that is not only comprehensive but also heartfull and empathetic.

FAQs

  • Are you taking new clients?

I am taking new clients on a limited basis, mainly schedule dependent.  Please reach out to see if I have availability.

  • Do you offer telehealth?

I offer both in-person and telehealth therapy options to accommodate the needs and preferences of my clients.

  • What is the length of the therapy session?

38-52 minutes is the standard pscyhotherapy session.

  • How do I schedule an appointment?

Please email me, Shimila@GroundedPath.org,  and I will send you the new client paperwork. Once that is received I will contact you to schedule our initial intake appointment.

  • What are your rates?

I offer competitive per-session rates for individuals, couples and families.  The intake session is $125 and subsequent sessions are $100 for individuals and $125 for couples and family sessions.

I do not take insurance. Many insurance plans offer out-of-network benefits, and I'm happy to provide monthly superbills for you to seek reimbursement from your insurer if that's an option for you. To assist with this, here are some questions you might consider asking your insurer:

    • Do I have out-of-network benefits for therapy sessions with a licensed therapist, and what is the coverage percentage?
    • How many therapy sessions are covered annually?
    • Is there a deductible, and has it been met for this year?
    • Which CPT codes are eligible for reimbursement? (I typically use 90834 for 50-minute sessions.)
    • What forms or documentation is required to process reimbursements?

If you're interested in beginning with a consultation to further discuss your needs and any questions you may have, I'm happy to schedule a complimentary 15-minute phone call or video chat at your convenience.

  • What are your hours?

I am open by appointment only. I see clients between the hours of 9:30 am with my last appointment offering at 4 pm Monday through Thursday. I do not see clients on Fridays.

  • What is your cancellation policy?

I require 24 hours advance notice of cancellations and reschedules. Clients are responsible for the entire session fee if cancellation is less than 24 hours.

  • Are you available for crisis services?

I provide therapy services based on an outpatient level of need.  Should your level of need increase and require a higher level care, I may recommend hospitalization or crisis stabilization services. Our local Community Service Board, Horizon Behavioral Health, provides crisis support 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to assess and assist in psychiatric emergencies. You may call 434-477-5000, or their after-hours emergency number 434-522-8191.  In the event you encounter a situation that exceeds your ability to cope you are asked to contact Horizon Behavioral Health Emergency Services or have a family member/friend contact 911 on your behalf or go to the nearest emergency room. Please see below for additional crisis resources.
